RED-Rochester in corporation with its parent companies completed a ~$75M investment in 2017 to retire 127 years of continuous coal-fired operations in Eastman Business Park replacing it with new clean-burning natural gas fired high pressure boilers to reduce carbon associated with RED’s utility services by 40%.  RED’s ownership, Sustainable Development Capital LP (SDCL) through their Energy Efficiency Income Trust Fund have continued to invest an additional ~$120M in modifications to improve efficiency and reduce carbon by installing new high efficiency electric chillers and a 38 MW gas turbine cogeneration plant to continue the evolution and innovation of RED’s systems to be a leader in reliable, efficient, and sustainable district energy.

Red-Rochester provides the following state-of-the-art utilities for Eastman Business Park:

ELECTRIC

125,000 KW firm capacity with backup inter-connections with public utility. Generated at 13,800 volts and distributed through RED-Rochester’s local micro grid with redundant underground feeder cables to double-ended load centers/substations for highest reliability and quality. Standard delivery is nominal 480 volt, 3 phase alternating current.

STEAM

1.5M lbs / hour firm capacity from utility-grade boilers with emergency backup boilers. Generated at 1,400 psig/900°F and supplied at different nominal pressure levels of 260 psig, 140 psig, 70 psig and 5 psig.

CHILLED WATER

40,000 tons installed capacity of tri-generation – nominal supply temperature 40°F

PROCESS WATER

54 million gallons per day nominal capacity. Backup from public water systems.

WASTE WATER TREATMENT & SEWER

36 million gallons per day capacity with Title V / RCRA permitted multiple hearth incinerator.

NITROGEN

148,000 standard cubic feet per hour installed on-site plant capacity with equivalent capacity of backup liquid vaporizers. Minimum purity is 99.999% with a nominal gauge pressure of 80 psig and a maximum dew point of -100°F.

DEMINERALIZED WATER

Treated process water using anion and cation exchangers with maximum conductivity of 4 micromhos

HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL

Hazardous waste management supplied by Clean Harbors

SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL

General trash, metal, plastic and corrugated service by Waste Management. Dock service, roll offs and compactors. Special waste disposal. Non-hazardous waste liquid waste removal.

COMPRESSED AIR

40,000 standard cubic feet per minute installed capacity with a nominal gauge pressure of 80 psig and a maximum dew point of 55°F.

HIGH-PURITY WATER

300 gal/min firm capacity of reverse osmosis deionized water – minimum resistivity 2 megohms
